Disappearing From Line of Sight

Hi All,
If you have ever watched a street fight you may have observed two or more persons fighting by trying to hit each other in the head. Most untrained street fighters are head hunters. You can easily defeat a head hunter because his focus is on one target, your head ! It is easy to disappear or remove your self from their line of sight. you either drop under one of their punching arms or get behind them. This only takes afraction of a second to do. Now your probably saying, yea easier said than done Jerry !! You can become proficient at this by practicing with a partner, doing the following drill. You can also do this drill with a heavy bag. First you and your partner stand at asafe distance from each other, that is about legs length plus a few inches out ofrange.Keeping this distance gives you time to react to what ever is happening, could be a kick or punch, backfist what ever. We will deal with a punch this time. The drill goes like this, have your partner throw a right straight or roundhouse punch at your head. As they step forward to deliver the punch, you take a short step to your left on a 45 degree angle as you do you drop into a full horse (squat) or you can drop on your right knee . This removes you from his line of sight for few seconds. From this position you right roundhouse or straight punch him in the groin. When you hit him in the groin he should bend over, by stepping on that 45 degree angle you should be to the side of him so he doesn't hit you with his head. Now you can stand and knee him in the face or body. Practice by having your partner react as if he was punched in the groin. Make sure you don't really punch each other in the groin and wear a cup in case you slip ! If your using a heavy bag make sure it's hung high enough so you can duck under it, just get it swinging back and forth and then practice ducking under. This will build you timing and distance skills and is a very good technique to use against head hunters. What to learn more about using angles, timing and distance in fighting?

The Secret of Movement

If your into martial arts like me and I'm sure you are or you wouldn't be reading this !

You've probably seen your share of Kung fu movies, where the Kung Fu Master can disappear and then reappear confusing his opponent and giving the Master an advantage to kick , punch or other wise beat the other guy down. While the disappearing part is pure fantasy, their are ways to move physically to avoid or even drop out of the other persons line of sight.

There are many styles of martial arts and they all have their own way of moving when in a fight situation. Some like boxing , kickboxing, karate, move in straight lines staying in front of their opponent bobbing and weaving or using their arms and legs to block punches and kicks etc. Other arts such as Aikido use circles to blend and use their opponents own energy to defeat them. Still others use angles to out flank and defeat the other fighter.

I've been studying Kung Fu San Soo for about 25 yrs. It is one of the oldest martial arts and one of the most misunderstood. This martial art uses all three ways of movement in combat and if done properly your opponent won't know what hit him! This art has the secret of movement built into every technique, it is a pure fighting art only used for self defense. It has no other purpose.

What are these so called secrets?

1. Straight Lines

2. Circles

3. Angles

4. Distance and Timing

Putting all of these to use in your techniques can greatly improve your fighting method no matter what the style.
